As business owners, we’ve always got a lot on our plate. We’re constantly trying to juggle all the intricacies of business while attempting to maintain (somewhat) a solid work-life balance. Trust me when I say, I fully understand how difficult it can be to find the time for tasks such as social media.
And let’s not overlook how tough it can sometimes be in thinking up ideas for content. The creative block is so real.
As a result of all this, it’s easy to throw social media to the back of your mind and leave it there until you can afford to make it someone else’s responsibility. However, I’m assuming you’re here because you already know how important social media is and its role in driving growth for your business.
So, how can we remain consistent with our social media efforts? Especially when we’re pushed for time.
Now, you may already do this with your time during your week (if you don’t, I highly recommend it as a revolutionary time management tool for top level efficiency – at least, that’s what it has become to me). Time blocking is a time organisation method that involves scheduling your day into blocks of time dedicated to specific tasks. In doing this, you may find you have better control over your schedule and feel as though you can manage your time more effectively.
Block out a set time during the week (preferably a time where you will feel ready to tackle on a big task) and use this time to plan and write all of your social media content for the next week. Always plan at least one week ahead.
Creative block is incredibly frustrating. Instead of staring at a blank screen during your social media creation time block, always keep an easily accessible list of content ideas. I find that my best ideas come at the most random times, walking the dog, taking a shower, cooking dinner, the list goes on. I keep my easily accessible list of content ideas on the Notes app on my phone. When I have an idea, I immediately speech to text it onto the list wherever I am and before I have the chance to forget.
Then, when it comes to your social media time block, pull out your list of content ideas and start planning around them.
Having the discipline to sit down and get going with social media planning is fantastic. However, sometimes we also need a bit of motivation. I find great motivation in looking back at why I’m doing this in the first place. For my business, I know that my social media presence acts like a personal portfolio to potential clients, and it allows me to help businesses that can’t quite afford to hire an agency to maximise their own marketing potential.
In remembering my ‘why’, I find that I remain focused and committed to posting even when I’m struggling with consistency.
Using scheduling tools will help automate the rest of the social media posting process. And if you don’t have much time, then this is an absolute lifesaving way to post on your platforms. My personal favourite scheduling tools are Later or Hootsuite, but there are many out there that can fit any of your needs.
This is a surefire way to publish your posts consistently throughout the week.
Reduce, reuse, recycle, right? Remember, we are humans, not robots. We can’t keep firing out different content left right and centre with absolute consistency. I know it appears that some people can, but I can assure you that they have either found their own methods or they have mastered repurposing and perfecting.
Let’s say you write a blog post, now that blog post can easy be repurposed into an Instagram carousel, or a LinkedIn newsletter article. You could turn it into a video to post on TikTok, or perhaps pull highlighted information and turn it into an infographic. That’s the beauty of content creation, there are endless opportunities with what you create.
Put some music on, have a little dancy dance to get yourself hyped to get going, write about the things you enjoy talking about most (however, this might not always be possible), just try and enjoy the process of getting creative. Obviously, we aren’t always going to enjoy these kinds of tasks, but while you’re at the beginning of making this into a lasting habit, try and make it somewhat enjoyable for yourself.
Overall, we know that social media is important for business growth, and to show your clients that you’re up to date/still active as a company. But you already know that 😉 So if you haven’t already, give our tips a go and see how you get on.
